Depressed seniors can often fall into poor dieting habits which can result to various medical problems.

Cooking has been proven to increase concentration and reduced stress.

Seniors were the target for the product due to the fact that they were a user group that was often overlooked.

The opportunities are endless with a user that is willing to try new things

How can we create a product for isolated seniors that create an environment that promotes positive mental health and learning.

Key Takeaways

1 in 5  of elderly seniors have a depressive disorder.

-World Health Organization

Daily creative activities, such as cooking, have been linked to flourishing and mental well-being.

Cookbooks take too much counter space, difficult to read, can get outdated, don’t inspire cooking

Apps introduce issues with dexterity and vision when using a small screen. Apps aren’t universal.

“Many people tell me to stay physically active but, I believe there needs to be a higher emphasis on mental health. At my age its important for me to keep my mind active and learn new things.”

Its important to understand that the primary user (the senior) might not be the person initially purchasing the product. Even after purchase Cibo will be used by their friends and family aswell. Keeping in mind these other stakeholders is key to understand the overall experience of the product.

 Design Goal.

How can we design a hands an experience that promotes positive mental well being through food?

Moving forward, these design goals will drive features and design decisions we create for our solution. Our solution should:

Positive Mind

Guiding our user's to have positive mental stimulants throughout the day.

Universal Solution

The solution should be an activity that everyone can participate in no matter who they are.

Social

The product should inspire socializing / flourish in a social setting.

 Stage 2.

Timeless Aesthetic

Simple & Timeless: The hardware needed to be intuitive and direct while still providing an aesthetic that would be a show piece in any kitchen. It was important from a usability perspective that senior's needs pertaining to visibility, dexterity, and hearing impairment were considered and addressed when designing the form. Mid-century references were used as visual inspiration as it was something easily identifiable with this user group.

The shape gives Cibo an appliance like design that stands out. The large screen and easy to grip form are paramount in the overall design.

Opening screen asks you how many servings are going to be prepared. Cibo then brings the user on a journey across the globe by choosing where the user wants the recipe to come from.

Portion size is chosen by rotating the bezel to specify how many are eating. Recipes will automatically use ingredient amounts to match this.

A video appears in the center of the screen during prep as a visual aid. This coincides with a timer like system that progresses as a step is completed.
